What future for the Western Balkans?

In 2018, the European Commission declared that the accession of the Western Balkans to the EU was a geostrategic investment. Back in 2003, the EU’s security strategy emphasised that the credibility of European foreign policy depended on the consolidation of results in the Balkans.
The article analyzes how, despite the obstacles that the process of accession has encountered in recent years, the interest of the Union for the Region seems to be stronger than ever and the motivation is to be found in the rise of external actors, such as Russia and China, which could threaten Europe’s geopolitical ambitions.
