News: Montenegro has made no progress towards EU membership in the last two years

The European Union Special Representative for the Western Balkans, Miroslav Lajcak, said that the process of Montenegro’s accession to the European Union "has not seen any further progress in the last two years". According to Lajcak, the stalemate is attributable to the Đukanović administration, "more focused on internal issues rather than on the European path".

Montenegro opened the last negotiating chapter with the EU in June 2020, becoming the country of the Western Balkans later in the accession process.
