News: Kosovo: escalation in tension, Kurti calls for EU intervention
Tensions continue in Kosovo ahead of the elections on 18 December to replace ethnic Serbs in the 4 municipalities north of Kosovo, after the mass resignation of former representatives in protest about the affaire of plates. On the night of 7-8 December, the offices of the municipal electoral commissions were subject to several attacks,, while officials were performing pre-election duties.
Following the attacks, the Kosovar police announced a greater deployment of forces in in the four municipalities with a Serbian majority. However, the situation has become even more complicated in the last few hours, with repeated attacks on the local police, to the point that the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has called for action by the EU and the US.
