News: Bosnia and Herzegovina: UN establishes Srebrenica Genocide Memorial Day

25 May 2024

The UN General Assembly established 11 July as the day of commemoration on the genocide in Srebrenica. The resolution was adopted by 84 votes to 19 with 68 abstentions.

A similar attempt had already been made in 2015, when the Security Council motion failed due to the Russian veto.

The vote was preceded by strong protests from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Serbian Republic leader Milorad Dodik, who threatened secession.
