News: Albania: the accession process is progressing without North Macedonia
The diplomatic representatives of EU countries have approved the letter with which the Presidency of the Council of the EU will communicate to the Albanian authorities the positive assessment of the Council on the achievement of the objectives foreseen by cluster 1.
In this way, the EU "splits" the path of accession to the EU of Albania and North Macedonia, which saw Albania stopped due to the friction between Bulgaria and North Macedonia and the lack of implementation of the constitutional changes requested by Brussels.
The objectives of the cluster are: Judiciary and fundamental rights; Justice; Freedom and security; Public procurement; Statistics; Financial control.
Albania and the EU will now have to define their respective negotiating positions in view of the Intergovernmental Conference.
