How the US election outcome could impact the Western Balkans

On 23 September 2024, Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Jr., met with some Serbian businessmen in Belgrade to discuss investment opportunities in the country. It was not the first time for the Trump family: the former president’s contacts with businessmen and representatives of the Serbian government date back to 2013, when Trump expressed interest in a real estate project in the former headquarters of the Yugoslav People’s Army, badly damaged in the 1999 NATO bombing.

As the US presidential election approaches, the Balkan countries - particularly Serbia and Kosovo - are watching closely.
