Montenegro, between Open Balkan and European integration
12 December 2022
The Open Balkans regional initiative has returned to the centre of political debate in Montenegro, following a report by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommending a more thorough assessment of possible Montenegrin membership of the initiative.
The regional economic initiative, in fact, is supported by Albania, Serbia and North Macedonia, while Montenegro has not yet joined.
The Ministry’s report contrasts sharply with the positions of the outgoing Prime Minister, Dritan Abazović, who has always been in favour of the country’s involvement.
After the publication of the analysis, the Minister of European Affairs, Jovana Marovic, announced her resignation.
