Montenegro: interethnic balance and European integration

The election of the new Montenegrin government last April put an end to the government crisis that began in February 2022 with the motion of no confidence toward the former president Zdravko Krivokapić. The new government, led by Milo Djukanović, is ruled by parties with a long history of splits and groupings, whose greatest challenge will be to maintain cohesion until the 2023 elections. However, Djukanović differs sharply from his predecessor in his pro-Western policy and commitment to reforms essential to European integration.
