News: Conclusions of the 2022 Summit of the Berlin Process

The 2022 Summit of the Berlin Process has concluded in a profitable way, leaving hope for the summit of the Western Balkans to be held in Albania on December 6 - a country also designated to host the 2023 edition of the Summit. Joint action to address future challenges was the focus of the meeting, which led the 6 Balkan leaders to adopt three new agreements aimed at facilitating freedom of movement within the region and employment - through the mutual recognition of academic qualifications.

With regard to cooperation on security and energy issues, the 6 leaders committed themselves to stepping up efforts to implement the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans - which incorporates the European Green Deal content.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has also announced the allocation of a package of one billion euros in subsidies, divided into two tranches. The first, consisting of 500 million -  divided into 165 million for Serbia, 80 million for North Macedonia, 80 million for Albana, 75 million for Kosovo and 70 million for Bosnia-HerzegovinaHerzegovina - will start in January and will be used to amortize energy prices. The second tranche, also of 500 million, will be devoted to energy diversification and the financing of investments in renewable energy.
