News: Dodik Sentenced to One Year in Prison and Banned from Holding Public Office

26 February 2025

The leader of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, has been sentenced to one year in prison and banned from holding public office for six years by a Bosnian court. Dodik responded by stating that he would ignore the court's ruling and urged his supporters to do the same.
The sentence follows the 2023 decision by the National Assembly of Republika Srpska to pass a law which refuses to recognize the decisions of the High Representative, preventing their publication in the Official Gazette and their implementation within the entity. In response, the High Representative introduced amendments to Bosnia and Herzegovina's criminal code, making non-compliance with his decisions a criminal offense.
