News: the Enlargement process

During the European Media Summit, held in Austria from 21 to 23 April, the Austrian Foreign Minister, Alexander Schallenberg, expressed his opposition to Ukraine’s immediate accession to UE, in respect for the other Western Balkan countries which have been waiting for the start of negotiations for years. Schallenberg proposed for Ukraine "a new model of cooperation and participation in the European Economic Area that does not involve full membership of the European Union".
