News: The European Committee of the Region welcomes progress and flags up persisting challenges

European Committee of the Region the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) as approved the European Commission’s Joint Assessment of the progress of reforms in the Western Balkans and Turkey, asking the EU to focus its attention on the local and regional authorities of the countries seeking to join the EU. The CoR voiced a mix of support and concern about the current political crisis in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo. The opinion nonetheless held that the priority of EU’s policy in all member regions and cities should be in supporting local economies and civil society. CoR rapporteur, Anna Magyar (HU/ECR) shared how enlargement policy is one of the most successful policies of the EU and brings the countries together, promoting peace, stability and prosperity.
