News: Italy and Slovenia reintroduce border controls

The Italian Government has announced the temporary restoration of controls at the Italian-Slovenian border. Slovenia, on the other hand, has also declared a temporary suspension of the Schengen Treaty, reintroducing police controls at the border with Croatia and Hungary. The cause is the alert created around the risk of terrorist attacks by criminal groups from the Western Balkans following the crisis in the Middle East. These groups could exploit migratory flows along the Balkan Route to enter the national territory. The President of the Italian Council, Giorgia Meloni, has clarified that the action has been rendered necessary also for the increase of the migratory flows coming own from the Balkan Route.
