Collaborator for a participatory research

Regarding the initiative titled "Contributing to the achievement of SDG 10, Promoting and Strengthening the Social, Economic and Political Inclusion of Migrants, Returnees and Persons at Risk of Unsafe Migration in the East Hararge and Dire Dawa Areas, Ethiopia, AID 012590/07/6," the procedure for identifying the following position is hereby opened today:

We are seeking a collaborator for a participatory research project lasting approximately 45 working days per year, starting in October 2024 and concluding by 2025. The specific working periods will be defined in detail with the Italian expert.

Requirements:

  • A degree in a field related to social issues.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in urban and rural areas on issues related to poverty, exclusion, malnutrition, and marginalization.
  • Excellent knowledge of Oromo and Amharic, and good proficiency in written and spoken English.

Responsibilities:

  • Translating 10 brief questionnaire models into Oromo.
  • Supporting two field missions conducted by the Italian expert in 2024 and 2025, in Dire Dawa and at least two of the following Woredas: Gerawa, Deder, Goro Gutu, and Golo Oda (each mission lasting about 10 days, with the first mission scheduled from October 6 to 12, 2024).
  • Providing English-Oromo interpretation during the missions.
  • Translating the responses to the questionnaires from Oromo following the missions.
  • Conducting autonomous visits to the metropolitan area of Dire Dawa and to kebeles in the Woredas of Gerawa, Goro Gutu, Deder, Bedeno, and Golo Oda to carry out interviews based on the model used during the missions, and subsequently sending the translated questionnaires in English.

(Save the Children Office c/o Bureau of Women and Children Affairs Dire Dawa City Administration, Dire Dawa) and must undergo an interview aimed at deepening and verifying the experiences and skills indicated therein.

Following the interview, each of the skills referred to in the previous items will be assigned a number of points from 1 to 5 and a specific ranking will be drawn up.

The type of contract and remuneration will be defined in a second interview with the pre-selected person, based on the profile and on the basis of the number of hours allocated to the position.
