Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Sorensen’s Moment

27 February 2025

On February 1st, Danish diplomat Peter Sorensen assumed the position of new EU Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, a role previously held by Miroslav Lajčák.
Thanks to Lajčák's mediation, the Ohrid Agreement was reached in 2023, which officially paved the way for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. However, two years later, the implementation of the provisions in the Agreement has not yet begun, and Lajčák has often been accused by the Kosovar government of supporting positions too favorable to Serbia.
Sorensen's appointment has therefore been welcomed by the Kosovar government, especially due to the diplomat's deep knowledge of the region.
Nevertheless, the future prospects for the negotiations remain uncertain.
